Draft with Verified Citations in Casey

Learn how Casey’s new Draft Citations feature adds verified citations to AI-generated drafts, provides citation previews, and automatically converts citations to The Bluebook legal citation style when saved to Drafts.

Written by Ann Tindog

Casey can now include directly verified citations when drafting documents, making it easier to trace statements back to the evidence in your case.

How Citation Drafting Works

When you ask Casey to draft a document that requires supporting evidence, Casey will:

  1. Research the case evidence needed to support the draft.

  2. Collect the relevant sources and identify where each piece of evidence appears in your documents.

  3. Manually verify the citations before beginning the draft.

  4. Write the draft proposal in real time, with citation badges appearing alongside the content as it is generated.

Verified Citations

Each citation badge indicates the evidence supporting the statement being drafted. You can hover over or select a citation badge to open a preview popover, allowing you to see the supporting citation and where the evidence appears in the source document.

This makes it easier to review Casey's work and confirm that the statements in your draft are supported by the underlying case documents.

Saving a Draft Converts Citations to Legal Style

When you choose to save the proposal to Drafts, Casey automatically converts the citation badges into legal citations formatted in The Bluebook style.

Before saving, the proposal will show you a preview of how the citations will appear in the final draft.

NOTE: The Bluebook-style citation conversion only happens when you save the proposal to the Drafts section.

Copying or Exporting a Draft

If you copy or export the content directly from the Casey chat, the citation badges will not be converted to Bluebook-style legal citations.

To get the formatted legal citations, save the proposal to Drafts first, then use the saved draft.
