Download Clip for Synced Deposition Video

Learn how to download a video clip of a highlighted portion of a synced deposition transcript.

Written by Ann Tindog

If a deposition has synced video, you can now select any part of the transcript and download that portion as a standalone video clip.

Look for Download clip in the menu that appears after you highlight text in the deposition viewer. This option only shows up when the deposition has synced video attached — if you don't see it, the video likely isn't synced yet (or there's no video for that deposition).

How to download a clip

  1. Open a deposition that has synced video.

  2. Highlight the transcript text you want in the clip — a few lines, a single answer, whatever range you need.

  3. Choose Download clip from the menu that appears.

  4. When the clip is ready, it opens automatically in a new browser tab.

  5. Save or share the video from there — it's a standard MP4 file.

The clip starts exactly on the first word of your selection and ends on the last, with a small buffer (about half a second) added before and after so the audio doesn't feel cut off mid-word.

Selections that span multiple volumes

If your depositions run across more than one video volume, you can highlight a range that crosses a volume boundary. The clip will play continuously through the transition — you won't notice a break between volumes.

Behind the scenes, each volume is cut into its own piece and then joined together in the correct order, so what you get is a single, seamless MP4.

Limitations and troubleshooting

Situation

What happens

Deposition has no synced video

Download clip does not appear in the menu

Selection covers only a header or non-testimony block

An error toast appears and no file downloads

Vendor-provided sync map without word-level timing

Clip is trimmed to the nearest whole line instead of the exact word

A line in your selection has no matching sync data

That line is skipped; the rest of the selection is still included

FAQ

Why don't I see Download clip on this deposition? The deposition doesn't have synced video yet, or it isn't fully synced. Check that the video is attached and sync is complete.

Can I download a clip that starts mid-answer? Yes — the clip follows exactly what you highlight, down to the individual word.

What if my selection includes a section with no video coverage (like a cover page or index)? Those lines are skipped automatically; the rest of your selection still downloads.
